I deserve a sainthood.
I have been standing outside in the freezing cold for the past four hours smiling and handing out candy canes and chatting to people walking by, all while enduring agonizing cramps.
I love the desert.
I love where I live. It’s hot and dusty and barren and beautiful in every way. I don’t think I could live anywhere else for long. Everyone I know hates it here, here in the middle of the Mohave desert with its twisted trees and blazing sun and howling wind. But I love it. The sunsets are spectacular. Silence is never very far away. I love how I can look in any direction and see lovely...
It's so easy to fall into a routine.

It’s been a happy tradition for so many years: trimming the tree. It’s always been my job and I’ve always had a girl best friend to decorate with. I’ve looked forward to it, pulling out the lights and ornaments, looking back on the memories attached to the decorations.
